2. Bird With A Broken Wing (Anna)
One by one, the four members of Opus 10 gather in the garden of their isolated island cottage located on an island along the Stockholm Archipelago. Musical effects punctuate their entrances and growing agitation, as Anna tries to silence the quartet’s infighting and questions them about the rumored split.

PART 1: SURPRISE

(The curtain rises to reveal Anna and Björn talking in the garden of OPUS10’s cabin on the island. Rita enters the garden and is surprised to see Björn. Her surprise increases when Katherine emerges from the cabin, and Reno arrives a moment later. Musical effects punctuate the entrances and express the growing surprise and agitation of Rita. Anna silences the quartet and starts questioning them.)

PART 2: BIRD WITH A BROKEN WING

Anna:
It’s been a summer
The union’s over
Tell me what you do
Your recent affections
New directions
You think you ought to prove
That you can take it on your own
That you can live alone
As for me, I find I cannot carry on

Don’t give excuses
No refusals
Just hear me from the heart
No offenses
Your old pretenses
Should now be laid aside
If you think you can abandon your role
Disregard the call
Well, it’s better then to bury OPUS10’s soul

Forget your worries
End old stories
Show me what to do
It’s not my vocation, my profession
To bring these words to you
By yourself, you may hit the wall
Just you alone may fall
Believe it or not, it’s out of my control

It seems that I merely define it
It’s only yourselves who’ll refine it
I’m like a bird with a broken wing
Who cannot fly over mountains, sing without you
Without you

The early failures,
The million sellers
We tasted all together
Through wearisome concerts,
Success hunters,
We headed for the better
You think you’ve reached the very top
There’s no more room left up
Well then leave it all,
Just let it go and stop

It seems that I merely define it
It’s only yourselves who’ll refine it
I’m like a bird with a broken wing
Who cannot fly over mountains, sing without you
Without you

It seems that I merely define it
It’s only yourselves who’ll refine it
I’m like a bird with a broken wing
Who cannot fly over mountains, sing without you
Without you

If just to prove it on your own is your new priority
Well then go ahead but forget all about me
