7. The Three Boys
In the midst of their sweet reflective moment, three young punks destroy the group’s poster by pasting an advert announcing a live show from a trendy new group directly over it. The boys poke fun at Opus 10’s past, wondering if they’re dead or alive, and belittling the titles of their pop songs.
Lyrics
PART 3: THE THREE BOYS
Three Boys:
Life is no more than a dream and a farce
You may be a king and you may touch the stars
Someone somewhere is counting your days
You may build a dream and you may break your bars
You’re on your way to death
And it’s a one-way path
Life is no more than a wandering dream
So many tales spun around the same theme
We all get more than our share of the joke
And life is pulling our legs with an unlucky stroke
You may be flying high
When you will lose the sky
You stop running and you start turning back
Life with a grin, gives you all that you lack
She deals the hand you fold
All the while growing old
She makes it hard for you to say no
Then she says “come” and you just have to go
You’re on your way to death
And it’s a one-way path
You stop running and you start turning back
Life with a grin, gives you all that you lack
She deals the hand you fold
All the while growing old
She deals the hand you fold
All the while growing old
The only way not to die
To keep your banner up in the sky
Send a song to the East and the West
A song that will linger when your own day is past
Death will be put to shame
When he hears your name
Here’s a show that’s new to our town
“Put posters up and bring impostors down”
Death will be put to shame
When he hears your name
Death will be put to shame
When he hears your name
Boy 1: (seeing the poster)
Look who’s here! OPUS10!
I’d forgotten all about them
Boy 2:
Naturally
Boy 3:
They’re dead?
Boy 2:
They are the kind you forget!
Boy 1:
I used to like that song of theirs
(hums Chiquitita’s music)
Boy 2:
I know that one. It’s called Chiquita.
Boy 1:
That’s the banana, stupid. The song is Chiquitita.
Three Boys:
Of course!
(indicating the OPUS10 poster on the wall)
What will we do with that?
Three Boys accompanied by the choir:
“Take it down”
Boy 3:
It isn’t worth the trouble. Let’s put this over it.
(Three boys place the new rock opera poster on top of the old OPUS10 poster)
Reno: (watching them, surprised)
They say it is not worth taking down
Kurt: (hardly speaking)
What’s this show that is new to our town?
Kurt & Reno:
Death will be put to shame
When he hears their name
Three Boys:
You’re on your way to death
And it’s a one-way path
Life is no more than a dream and a farce
You may be a king and you may touch the stars
We all get more than our share of the joke
Life is pulling our legs with an unlucky stroke
You may be flying high
When you will lose the sky
(Exeunt the three boys.)
